1. Initial Strategic Consultation
Your journey begins with a dedicated strategy session to review your documents and map out a path forward.
- Flat Rate Fee: $560.00 (Includes all applicable taxes).
- Process: Payable via cash, bank draft, debit, or credit card prior to your meeting with the lawyer.
- Duration: Most consultations last between one and two hours; however, this flat rate applies regardless of the time taken, ensuring we focus on your needs, not the clock.
2. Flexible Billing Models and Legal Aid
We recognize that every family law or child protection case is unique. We offer two primary ways to manage your legal costs:
- Hourly Rate: Our standard rate is $250.00 per hour plus taxes and disbursements.
- Flat-Fee Arrangements: For straightforward matters, or in cases where an hourly rate may not be the most reasonable or beneficial option for you, we may offer a Flat-Fee Agreement. This provides you with the ultimate certainty of a single, upfront cost for specific legal tasks.
- Legal Aid BC (LABC): We are proud to support access to justice. We accept Legal Aid contracts for clients who have been approved for coverage through Legal Aid BC for family law and child protection matters.
3. Understanding Legal Expenses (Disbursements)
In addition to our professional fees for legal advice, your case may incur “disbursements.” These are third-party costs paid by our firm on your behalf to move your file forward. These include, but are not limited to:
- Court filing fees and process servers.
- Court reporters and transcript costs.
- Photocopying, printing, and postage.
- Applicable taxes (GST/PST).
4. The Retainer & Agreement Process
Transparency starts with a written commitment. Before we begin any work, we follow a rigorous onboarding process:
- Preparation: We prepare a formal Retainer Letter detailing the scope of work and fee structure.
- Review: We review this letter carefully with you to ensure every clause is understood.
- Mutual Agreement: Only once you fully understand and agree to the terms do both you and the firm sign the letter.
- The Trust Account: We typically require an initial retainer deposit of $5,000.00 (though this may be higher depending on the case). This money stays in a secure trust account. We send you a detailed bill before transferring funds from the trust account to pay for the work performed.
5. Professional Notary Services
Efficient, reliable notarization for affidavits, statutory declarations, life certificates, and certified copies.
- First Signature: $25.00 + tax.
- Each Additional Signature: $10.00 + tax.
- Note: Please bring at least one piece of unexpired, government-issued photo ID. We will retain copies of your ID and the document for our legal records.
Resolving Billing Concerns
At Vincera Law, we value the relationship we have with our clients. While the BC court system provides formal procedures for resolving disputes over legal fees, our priority is to resolve any concerns directly and early. We believe in open communication and will work with you in good faith to address any billing questions immediately, ensuring our focus remains on your legal success.
